School Readiness Project

Published: November, 2019

As part of a trauma-informed approach to school readiness in Dulverton EHCAP is sponsoring me (Dr Sarah Temple) to provide half hour appointments in the Exmoor Medical Centre with parents and carers of children in Early Years settings. I am working with adult caregivers building skills and capabilities in emotion intelligence and executive function using the Mindful Emotion Coaching and ACE awareness approach – that is Dan Siegel’s Hand Model, John Gottman’s Emotion Coaching and the Jack Shonkoff’s three types of stress (including toxic stress and ACE awareness). The approach is summarised in this link.

At the moment this piece of work is funded by EHCAP as part of a collaboration with the Primary Care Network in West Somerset. The PCN lead is is Dr Kelsey Boddington. The work sits alongside and complements the WSOA funded Emotion Coaching Project where Dulverton is a hub.
